Position size calculator

Position size is the number of lots at which a stop loss costs exactly the share of the account you decided to risk. Pick the pair and your account currency, then enter the balance, the risk per trade and the stop distance in pips. The value of one pip for a full lot is filled in at the current rate.

How it is calculated

Risk amount is the balance times the risk percentage. Position size is the risk amount divided by what one lot loses at the stop: the stop distance in pips times the pip value per lot.

For a standard lot of a pair quoted in your account currency, EURUSD on a USD account for example, a pip is worth 10. For crosses and JPY pairs it depends on the exchange rate, so the calculator fills it in from the current price of the pair you pick. Your broker rounds the result to its lot step, usually 0.01.
