Joint Chiefs Chairman Refuses to Discuss Iran Ground Invasion Scenario
Gen. Dan Caine declined to confirm whether a ground invasion of Iran is under consideration, citing the unhelpfulness of hypothetical discussion during a Senate hearing. He also refused to disclose advice given to President Trump on military options.
Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, declined to say whether a ground invasion of Iran was being considered, telling a Senate hearing it would be "unhelpful" to comment on hypotheticals.
Pressed by Senator Jack Reed on whether US forces were prepared for a prolonged guerrilla war, Caine said he always presents President Donald Trump with a range of military options and their associated risks but that his advice must remain private.
