Yen Strengthens Further as Soft JOLTS Data Pressures USD/JPY

USD/JPY slipped toward 157.40 on Tuesday after weaker-than-expected U.S. job openings data boosted the Japanese yen.

The Japanese yen extended its recent advance during the American session on Tuesday, pushing USD/JPY lower to trade near 157.40. The move came after the latest JOLTS report showed a decline in U.S. job openings, signaling a softening labor market and weighing on the dollar.

The yen had already been building on gains from prior sessions, with traders reacting to the data by further reducing dollar longs. The soft JOLTS print reinforced expectations that the Federal Reserve may hold off on further tightening, reducing the greenback’s yield advantage.

As a result, USD/JPY remained on the back foot, with the yen holding near multi-week highs against the dollar.
