USD/CAD Pressured Below 1.4000 as Focus Turns to US Inflation Data

USD/CAD remained on the defensive near 1.4000 on Monday despite a slight recovery in the US dollar, with traders looking ahead to Wednesday’s CPI report.

USDCAD

The Canadian dollar held firm against the greenback to start the week, keeping USD/CAD under the 1.4000 handle. Even a modest bounce in the US dollar after Friday’s sell-off failed to lift the pair decisively.

Last week’s weaker-than-expected US nonfarm payrolls numbers undermined the dollar, reinforcing bets that the Federal Reserve is done hiking rates. That softness continued to overhang the greenback in early Monday trade.

Market attention now pivots to Wednesday’s US consumer price index release, which could determine the near-term direction. A hot print might revive dollar demand, but for now bearish momentum persists below 1.4000.
