UOB: Indonesia’s Trade Deficit Narrowed in June 2026

UOB economists note that Indonesia’s June 2026 trade deficit narrowed as stronger non-oil and gas exports partly offset rapid import growth.

Economists at UOB, Enrico Tanuwidjaja and Vincentius Ming Shen, assessed Indonesia’s latest trade figures. They highlighted that the trade deficit narrowed in June 2026, supported by a pick-up in non-oil and gas exports.

This improvement helped offset the rapid pace of imports. The details point to some resilience in Indonesia’s external sector despite ongoing global trade risks.

The narrowing deficit could provide structural support for the rupiah, though the broader trade outlook remains sensitive to external demand and commodity price swings.
