Trump says FDA will get 1994 ibogaine application to speed psychedelic treatment work

President Trump announced that the University of Miami has transferred its original 1994 ibogaine investigational drug application to the federal government, aiming to accelerate development of psychedelic treatments for veterans.

President Donald Trump said Secretary Kennedy has received what he called a historic gift from the University of Miami: the original 1994 Ibogaine Investigational New Drug application. According to Trump, this will provide direct access to the foundational FDA authorization needed to speed ibogaine's development as a medical treatment in the U.S.

The move follows an April executive order focused on accelerating medical treatments for serious mental illness, including psychedelic drugs such as ibogaine. Trump said progress since then has included HHS research funding, collaboration between HHS and the VA, and FDA guidance.

He added that the administration is moving quickly so veterans with serious mental illness have a “RIGHT TO TRY” in the U.S., and said he hopes more companies and institutions will join the work.
