Taiwan to Pay Every Resident TWD 10,000 as AI Boom Lifts Revenue

Taiwan's president announced a universal cash handout of TWD 10,000 (about $314) and a TWD 235.7 billion budget expansion, citing stronger government revenue from AI-linked growth.

Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te has announced a universal cash payment of TWD 10,000 (about USD 314) for all residents. The measure is linked to rapid growth in artificial-intelligence-related sectors.

Under the program, the central budget would be expanded by TWD 235.7 billion (about USD 7.4 billion). Authorities attributed the plan to a higher government revenue assessment, saying the fiscal position allows a balanced budget without new obligations.

The government framed the payout as a way to share the benefits of the global AI boom with the public.
