PBOC Fixes USD/CNY at 6.7904, Slightly Weaker Than Previous Day

The People’s Bank of China set the daily USD/CNY reference rate at 6.7904 on Friday, a marginal increase from the prior fix of 6.7895.

On Friday, the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) fixed the official midpoint for the onshore yuan at 6.7904 per dollar.

The rate represents a slight weakening of the yuan compared to the previous trading day’s fix of 6.7895. The setting also came in above a Reuters estimate of 6.7548, suggesting the PBOC allowed modest depreciation.

Daily adjustments to the USD/CNY reference rate are closely watched for signals of the central bank’s currency management stance.
