Iran: Oil Tanker Explodes Near Strait of Hormuz; Traffic Halted

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reported that an oil tanker caught fire after an explosion south of the Strait of Hormuz. Two other tankers turned back, and Iran stated no tanker will enter or leave the strait without coordination.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran announced that one of three oil tankers caught fire after an explosion south of the Strait of Hormuz. The other two tankers turned back following the incident.

Iran declared that no tanker will be permitted to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz without prior coordination with Tehran. This development threatens to disrupt one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints for oil shipments.
