HSBC Sees Dollar Strength After Post-FOMC Dip

HSBC strategists anticipate a temporary dip in the US dollar following the Fed’s rate hold, but expect renewed strength.

HSBC strategists note that the US dollar drifted lower after the July FOMC meeting, where the Federal Reserve held its key rate at 3.50–3.75% despite some internal dissent. The initial market reaction was a brief dip in the greenback.

The bank, however, sees the weakness as short-lived. It argues that underlying fundamentals and the policy outlook still support dollar strength in the near term. The rate hold, while contentious, does not alter the broader path of dollar resilience.

The assessment comes as traders weigh the Fed’s next steps against global currency moves, with HSBC maintaining a positive bias on the US currency.
