Hedge Funds Post Second-Largest Weekly US Equity Buying in 12 Months
Hedge funds bought US equities every session last week, with single-stock longs leading the second-largest weekly purchase in a year.
According to The Kobeissi Letter, hedge funds were net buyers of US equities in every trading session last week. The aggregate flow ranked as their second-largest weekly purchase over the past 12 months, signaling continued positioning in the US market.
Single stocks made up roughly 70% of the total, driven mainly by long equity purchases and, to a lesser extent, short covering. Information technology and communication services saw the strongest demand, while eight of the 11 sectors recorded net purchases.
Macro products including index futures and ETFs accounted for about 30% of total demand. Short positions in US-listed ETFs were reduced for a sixth consecutive week, reinforcing the broader shift toward risk-on equity exposure.
