Release history

Date

The policy rate itself is on boj.or.jp. Market moves are not shown either: with no set time, an hour measured from a fixed clock would not be the hour after the decision.

What it is

The Bank of Japan sets the short-term policy rate for the yen. After years of negative rates and yield curve control it has been raising rates since 2024, and each meeting is now a live event for USD/JPY and, through the yen carry trade, for risk assets far beyond Japan.

When it comes out

Eight meetings a year, with the Outlook Report in January, April, July and October. There is no set announcement time: the statement comes out when the meeting ends, usually between 11:30 am and 1:00 pm Tokyo time.

When is the next Bank of Japan release

Fri, Oct 30, 2026. The Bank of Japan does not set a time: the decision comes out when the meeting ends, usually around midday Tokyo time.

Which time zone are the times in

Each release is shown in the publisher's own time, New York for the Fed and US data, Frankfurt for the ECB and Tokyo for the Bank of Japan, followed by the same moment in UTC. US and European clocks change on different dates, so in March and in late October the gap between New York and Frankfurt is an hour shorter for a week or two.

Is this trading advice

No. The calendar shows when data comes out, what it was and how prices moved afterwards. A past reaction does not predict the next one, and none of this is a recommendation to buy or sell.
