Currency strength meter
How strong each of the eight major currencies is right now: USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CHF, CAD, AUD, and NZD. A currency's strength is its average move against the other seven over the last hour, day or week. It is built from live quotes of the seven dollar pairs on our MetaTrader bridge, rebuilt every minute, and free to read without an account.

How the strength is calculated
Every currency is first measured against the dollar over the window: EUR by EUR/USD, JPY by USD/JPY turned over, and so on for all seven pairs. Dividing one leg by another gives any cross, so EUR/JPY is EUR/USD divided by JPY/USD. Cross rates form the same way in the interbank market, and seven quotes give all 28 pairs.
The strength of a currency is the plain average of its seven crosses in percent. EUR at +0.20% means that across the other seven currencies the euro gained a fifth of a percent on average. Every currency faces the same basket of seven, so the eight numbers compare with each other directly.
What the window means
The window is counted in hourly bars of the pairs: 1, 24 and 168 bars back from the latest price. Forex stops for the weekend and prints no bars, so on Monday morning the 24h window reaches back to Friday, and seven days of bars cover more than a calendar week. The same windows colour forex on the market heatmap, so EUR/USD shows the same move on both pages.
How the colours are set
A cross that moved less than 0.02% in an hour, 0.1% in a day or 0.3% in a week stays neutral. Beyond that there are four steps per side, set separately for each window: in an hour a cross moves hundredths of a percent, in a week whole percent, and one scale would paint the week solid and leave the hour grey.
Why another strength meter shows a different order
Strength meters differ in three choices: which pairs go in, how long the window is and how the result is scaled. Built only from the pairs a broker lists, a currency that appears in two pairs gets a different basket from one that appears in seven. A rescaled index from 0 to 10 hides how far a currency actually moved. Here every currency faces the same seven, the window is fixed in bars and the number stays in percent.
Are the crosses real quotes
The seven dollar pairs are real bridge quotes. The other 21 crosses are computed from them through the dollar, the way a dealer quotes a cross. A traded cross can differ from the computed one by the spread and by a few seconds of timing, which does not change the order of currencies.
How traders use it
The usual reading is to put the strongest currency against the weakest and check that the longer window agrees with the shorter one. Strength describes what already happened over the window. It is not a forecast and not a signal to trade.
Can I put this meter on my site
Yes. The ranking ships as a free embeddable widget in both themes, and the snippet is in the widget gallery.
