Gap and pivot entry rules with stops written before the fill

A documented day-session construction keeps overnight gap filters, Rule-based entry decisions, and stop and target distances written before the fill in one procedure.

  • The archive keeps three session styles distinct: same-session trades that flatten before the close, morning entries that use a target and a stop and exit at the close, and entries that may be held overnight because the first minutes often continue the prior close.
  • The pivot scan is not a raw signal dump. Watch, bullish, and bearish filters check volume relative to a multiple of average volume, close versus the pivot, and multi-day pivot direction before a name is a candidate.
  • A separate Gap trading buy rule fires only when today's low is above yesterday's high, then writes a profit target and a protective Stop-loss order from the same computed buy level before the trade is live.
  • Overnight continuation is a written design choice: the position may close that day or the next once the target is met, and the stop may be moved while the position is open.

Three styles kept distinct

One documented procedure treats three related styles as distinct rather than as one blended setup. The first style takes many small same-session trades that close before the session ends. The second takes morning entries that use a target and a stop and flatten at the close. The third allows entries that may be held into the next session, because the first minutes often continue the prior close.

The same construction treats overnight continuation as a design choice rather than an accident. A position taken during the session may be closed that day or the next once a written target is met, and the Stop-loss order may be moved while the position is open.

Pivot scan with candidate filters

A pivot-based scan computes a true-close pivot as the average of high, low, and close. It then derives first and second stops and targets from that pivot and from the day's range. A buy or short is issued from the sign of close minus true close.

That scan is not a raw signal dump. Watch, bullish, and bearish filters require volume relative to a multiple of average volume, close versus the pivot, and multi-day pivot direction before a name is treated as a candidate.

Gap buy rule with stops written first

A separate Gap trading buy rule fires only when today's low is above yesterday's high. It then chooses a buy price from the open, the prior high, or a half-range offset, depending on other boolean conditions, including whether the open itself is above the prior high.

The gap construction writes both a profit target and a protective Stop-loss order before the trade is live. The target adds the prior day's range to a computed buy level, and the stop sits a fixed 4 percent below that same buy level.

Execution filters on that gap rule require minimum volume thresholds, a positive buy price above the computed buy level, optional price-band caps, and a combined flag that the name both gapped up and met the buy condition.

Chart companion across time frames

A chart-based companion procedure requires the same Rule-based entry condition on hourly, 30-minute, and five-minute views. A 10-period RSI must turn up from below 30. A 28-period moving-average band is used as the exit channel or as a precalculated target after costs.
