Close-gated scale-in for swing breakouts

This archive article restates a swing-breakout construction as one close-gated procedure. A buy-zone settlement can start or add a long, a hold-zone close leaves size unchanged, and a sell-zone close is the cue to reduce, with those size changes reserved for the late-session-gate.

  • A buy-zone close above the prior day's high is the only settlement that starts a new long or authorizes an add.
  • A hold-zone close inside the prior day's range leaves existing size unchanged, while a sell-zone close authorizes a reduction.
  • The late-session-gate confines adds and cuts to 3:30 p.m. through the 4 p.m. cash close, or to extended hours after that close, instead of the opening range that starts at 9:30 a.m.
  • Repeat-double may enlarge an existing long while later closes stay above the newest prior-day high, and the prior-day-low-stop is both the first protective exit and the scale-out reference.

When the construction may change size

The swing construction initiates or adds only when the session closes in the buy-zone above the prior day's high. A close inside the prior day's range is treated as a hold-zone outcome and does not change position size. A close in the sell-zone is the cue to scale out of the position.

Buy-zone, hold-zone, and sell-zone

The buy-zone is a session close above the prior day's high. That settlement is the only one that authorizes a new long or an add.

The hold-zone is a session close inside the prior day's range, which leaves existing size unchanged. The sell-zone is a session close that violates the prior day's low, and that settlement authorizes a reduction.

The late-session-gate

Adds and reductions are reserved for 3:30 p.m. through the 4 p.m. cash close, or for extended hours after that close, instead of the opening range that starts at 9:30 a.m. The late-session-gate is that confirmation window: confirming adds and cuts between 3:30 p.m. and the 4 p.m. cash close, or after that close in extended hours.

Repeat-double on later sessions

If price is still above the prior day's high near 4 p.m., the plan doubles the existing long. Repeat-double is that scheduled step: increasing an existing long to twice its size when price is still above the newest prior-day high near the cash close.

The doubling step may be repeated on later sessions while the swing continues and each close remains above the newest prior-day high.

The prior-day-low-stop

The prior day's low is the initial stop, and the same reference is used when scaling out. The prior-day-low-stop is that previous session low, used as the first protective exit and as the reference for a sell-zone reduction.

A break of the prior day's close

The same procedure can act on a break of the prior day's close rather than waiting for a print above the prior day's high.

Editorial: once that alternate break is used, TradersWeek still reads the later settlements as the same buy-zone, hold-zone, and sell-zone loop behind the late-session-gate. That continuity is a TradersWeek interpretation, not an added archive instruction.
