US Energy ETFs See $4 Billion Outflows in Sharp Reversal From March Record
US energy sector ETFs lost $4.0 billion over 65 sessions, a sharp reversal from March's record inflows, with XLE facing a fifth straight monthly outflow.
US energy sector ETFs recorded $4.0 billion in net outflows over the 65 trading days through Monday, the steepest stretch since mid-2025. The move marks a sharp turn from March, when these funds took in a record $12.5 billion.
By comparison, the prior 2025 peak outflow was $5.5 billion and the 2023 record was $7.5 billion.
The Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) has shed $797 million so far in August. If that holds, it would be the largest monthly redemption since April 2025 and the fifth consecutive month of withdrawals.
Investor appetite for energy exposure is fading quickly, according to data highlighted by The Kobeissi Letter.
