Trump Urges Senate to Pass 'Save America Act' or End Filibuster as Debt Ceiling Looms

Former President Trump demanded the U.S. Senate not adjourn until it passes the 'Save America Act' or eliminates the filibuster, warning that failure could trigger a 1929-style debt ceiling catastrophe.

In a social media post, former President Trump called on Senate Republican leadership to prevent the chamber from "leaving town" without action on key fiscal legislation. He specifically urged Senator John Thune to keep the Senate in session until it passes the 'Save America Act' or, alternatively, terminates the filibuster.

Trump argued that eliminating the filibuster would allow Republicans to swiftly pass a broader legislative package, including a "full and deep" version of the Save America Act, the federal budget, and a resolution to the debt ceiling. He warned that inaction could lead to a "debt ceiling disaster, 1929," referencing the stock market crash and Great Depression.

The remarks underscore elevated partisan tensions around the debt limit and fiscal deadlines. The debt ceiling suspension is set to expire later this year, raising the risk of a technical default if Congress fails to act. Trump's post frames the procedural move as critical to avoiding a historic economic shock.
