The headline Tokyo Consumer Price Index (CPI) for July accelerated to 2.0% year-on-year, compared to 1.7% in the previous month. The data, released by the Statistics Bureau of Japan, points to persistent inflationary pressures in the capital.

Tokyo's CPI is often viewed as a leading indicator for nationwide price trends. The uptick may reinforce expectations that the Bank of Japan will consider further adjustments to its ultra-loose monetary policy.

Market participants will be watching for any signals from the central bank regarding a potential shift, as higher inflation readings could prompt a change in the yield curve control or negative interest rate policy.
