Tesla Gains on Report of Possible 'Flying' Roadster Reveal

Tesla shares rose 2.2% after reports that the company may unveil a new Roadster design with brief "flying" capabilities as soon as this month.

Tesla shares gained 2.2% following reports that the company could show a new Roadster design with "flying" capabilities as soon as this month. The demonstration is reportedly planned at SpaceX’s McGregor, Texas testing facility and would feature a limited-edition Roadster developed through a Tesla-SpaceX collaboration.

Details remain uncertain. Elon Musk has reportedly warned employees that the demonstration could be difficult to execute. Spectators are expected to stay several hundred yards away due to safety concerns, while Tesla has discussed potentially offering some demonstration vehicles to loyal customers under a program similar to Ferrari’s XX Programme.

Shares of electric-air-taxi companies Joby Aviation and Archer Aviation initially fell on the news before recovering.
