Strait of Hormuz Shipping Traffic Nearly Triples in Week

Vessel crossings through the Strait of Hormuz surged from 32 to 93 week-on-week, according to MarineTraffic and Kpler data, signaling a rebound in shipping confidence after recent geopolitical tensions.

Vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has rebounded sharply, with confirmed crossings nearly tripling week-on-week. Data from MarineTraffic and Kpler show crossings rose from 32 between June 12–14 to 93 between June 19–21 — an increase of 61 vessels.

The biggest single-day jump occurred on the most recent Saturday, when crossings surged from just 3 vessels to 42 compared with the previous weekend.

The recovery appears driven by easing regional disruption concerns, recent diplomatic developments, and a temporary OFAC general license that reduced compliance uncertainty for approved Hormuz transits through August 21.
