South Korea Fines Bithumb $136K for Unauthorized Data Transfer

South Korea's Personal Information Protection Commission fined Bithumb 210 million won (~$136,000) for transferring user order-book data to foreign third parties without consent.

South Korea's data watchdog has imposed a 210 million won ($136,000) fine on crypto exchange Bithumb for sharing user order-book data with overseas companies without proper consent.

The Personal Information Protection Commission found violations occurred from September to November 2025. Bithumb transmitted order-book data for USDT trading pairs. While the exchange had obtained client permission to share data with Stellar, it instead sent the information to a platform operated by BingX.

The fine underscores tightening regulatory scrutiny over data privacy in South Korea's crypto sector.
