Q2 Crypto Hacks Hit Record 83 Incidents, Losses Exceed $755 Million

The second quarter saw a record 83 crypto protocol hacks, with total losses of $755.3 million. The largest attacks targeted KelpDAO and Drift Protocol, while cross-chain bridge incidents accounted for $351 million.

According to data from Unfolded and DeFiLlama, Q2 2024 set a new record for the number of crypto protocol breaches, with 83 separate incidents. The cumulative damage amounted to $755.3 million.

Two attacks made up the bulk of the losses: the KelpDAO exploit for $293 million and the Drift Protocol hack for $280 million. Cross-chain bridges suffered $351 million in losses, with 38% of that figure stemming from the LayerZero OFT bridge incident. Another 37% came from admin access compromises and token price manipulation, while private key thefts accounted for only 5.66% of the total.
