NZD/USD Hits 7-Week High After NZ Q2 CPI Slightly Beats Consensus

The New Zealand dollar rallied to a seven-week high after Q2 CPI data came in slightly above consensus but just below the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's forecast, supporting expectations for further rate hikes.

NZDUSD

The New Zealand dollar (NZD) strengthened against the US dollar, reaching a seven-week high following the release of Q2 Consumer Price Index (CPI) data. The reading surprised slightly to the upside compared to market consensus, though it landed just below the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's (RBNZ) own projection.

According to Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH) analyst Elias Haddad, the data supports the case for additional rate hikes by the RBNZ. The central bank has been aggressively tightening monetary policy to curb inflation, and the latest CPI print reinforces the need for continued action.

NZD/USD has rallied sharply in response, with the pair now trading near its highest level since late May. Market participants will be watching for further cues from the RBNZ and upcoming economic data.
