Modi Thanks Youth as Protests Grow, Sidesteps Call to Sack Education Minister

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the youth in a video message but gave no sign he would meet the central demand of widening student protests to dismiss the education minister.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a video message on Friday night in which he repeatedly thanked India’s youth.

The address came as student protests continue to spread, with participants demanding the removal of the education minister.

Modi made no reference to the protests or the demand and provided no indication he would comply.

The lack of response may further galvanise the demonstrations.
