Japan's Katayama Confirms Coordinated Yen-Buying Intervention with US

Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama stated that Japanese authorities, in coordination with the US, intervened on Friday to purchase yen. Tokyo remains ready to act again alongside Washington.

Japan's Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama confirmed Monday that the country conducted coordinated yen-buying intervention with the United States last Friday. The operation was designed to curb excessive yen depreciation.

Katayama stressed that officials will not hesitate to carry out additional FX intervention in partnership with Washington if needed. The statement marks a clear show of joint resolve after the yen had weakened sharply in recent months.

Market participants will now watch closely for any follow-up action, as Japanese authorities signal they have US backing for further yen purchases.
