Japanese Yen Surges Past 155.50 on US-Japan Joint Intervention

The Japanese yen rallied sharply above 155.50 against the dollar after Japan announced a joint currency intervention with the United States, pushing USD/JPY to its lowest since early May.

The USD/JPY pair fell to around 155.45 during early Asian trading on Monday, marking its weakest level since May 6. The move came after Japan said it had conducted a joint intervention with the US to support the yen.

Buyers stepped in for the Japanese currency as news of the coordinated action broke. The yen had been under sustained pressure in recent weeks, prompting repeated verbal warnings from Japanese authorities.

Monday’s decline in USD/JPY saw the pair drop below the 155.50 handle for the first time in weeks, with traders now waiting for confirmation on the scale and duration of the intervention.
