Iran Rejects Oman’s Joint Strait of Hormuz Management Proposal

Tehran has turned down Oman’s proposal for regional management of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly 20% of global energy supplies flow.

A senior Iranian official stated that the country does not support Oman’s initiative for a joint regional management framework for the Strait of Hormuz. The strait is one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints, with almost 20% of global energy shipments passing through it.

The rejection leaves the security of the waterway — a persistent geopolitical flashpoint — under the same status quo. Any disruption to traffic in the strait could have immediate repercussions for global oil markets and broader energy supply chains.
