Geoff Yu of BNY Mellon reports that a Qatari LNG carrier was struck near the Strait of Hormuz, reigniting security concerns in the region. The incident has driven up European gas prices along with crude benchmarks including Brent, WTI, Omani, and Dubai crude.

The strike adds to existing geopolitical tensions near the strategic waterway, which handles a significant portion of global oil and LNG shipments. Market participants are now pricing in a higher risk premium for energy supplies transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
