Fed's Warsh: Broad Agreement on Stable Prices, Robust Discussion

Fed official Warsh characterized the latest FOMC discussion as a robust debate with broad consensus that the central bank has the tools to achieve stable prices, though he noted dissents did not capture the full discussion.

Kevin Warsh, a former Fed Governor, said that he welcomed a lively internal debate at the central bank and received a robust discussion on monetary policy.

In a social media post, Warsh noted there was broad agreement among policymakers that the Federal Reserve possesses the necessary tools to achieve price stability. However, he cautioned that the official dissents recorded in the meeting did not fully reflect the depth and nuance of the conversation.

The remarks suggest that while the Fed’s policy stance may appear unified in public, behind the scenes there was active and substantive deliberation over the path to returning inflation to the 2% target.
