Euro surges past 185 against yen after BoJ holds rates steady

EUR/JPY rose above 185.20 on Friday after the Bank of Japan left its key interest rate unchanged at 1%, as widely expected.

The euro extended its intraday advance against the Japanese yen during Asian trading on Friday, pushing above the 185.00 handle. The move followed the Bank of Japan's monetary policy announcement.

The BoJ kept its short-term interest rate steady at 1%, in line with market consensus. The decision was passed by an 8-1 vote, signaling broad support for the hold.

EUR/JPY climbed to around 185.20 as the yen weakened on the lack of any hawkish surprise. The pair had already been trending higher in the session, but the confirmation of no immediate tightening added momentum.
