Democratic Senators Oppose CLARITY Act Without Anti-Corruption Provisions

Three Democratic senators have come out against the current version of the CLARITY Act, demanding a ban on crypto ownership and promotion for the president, members of Congress, senior officials, and their families. The vote is expected the week of July 20 and needs 60 votes to pass a procedural hurdle.

Senators Chris Murphy, Jeff Merkley, and Chris Van Hollen are opposing the CLARITY Act in its current form, citing a lack of anti-corruption measures. They are calling for a prohibition on the president, members of Congress, senior executive branch officials, and their families from owning crypto businesses, promoting digital assets, or profiting from them.

The legislators argue the bill fails to address conflicts of interest related to Donald Trump's and his family's crypto projects. The vote on the legislation is scheduled for the week of July 20, and its authors will need 60 votes to clear a procedural barrier.
