Trump Taps Dr. Heidi Overton as Next FDA Commissioner
President Trump announced on Truth Social that he is nominating Dr. Heidi Overton, MD, PhD, to lead the FDA, citing her work with Secretary Kennedy and Dr. Oz on health policy.
In a Truth Social post, President Trump said he is honored to nominate Dr. Heidi Overton, MD, PhD, as the next FDA Commissioner. He described her as a key figure in his administration who has worked directly with Secretary Kennedy, Dr. Oz, and their team on what he called the most transformative health agenda in history.
Trump said Overton is known for taking on the hardest issues and bringing him solutions that work best for the country. He also relayed a comment from Secretary Kennedy, who reportedly said in the Oval Office that Overton is “always right.”
The nomination is framed as part of an effort to keep the U.S. as the world leader in scientific discovery and cures, with Trump stating that her leadership is needed at the FDA now.
