Stronger UK GDP bolsters BoE hawks, Rabobank says

Rabobank strategist Elwin de Groot says stronger-than-expected UK GDP gives Bank of England hawks fresh support, although the BoE remains reluctant to tighten further.

Rabobank strategist Elwin de Groot notes that stronger-than-expected UK GDP data has handed fresh arguments to Bank of England hawks. Growth was described as broad-based, including investment and GDP per capita.

Even so, the Bank itself remains reluctant to tighten policy further. The comments highlight tension between improving UK activity data and a cautious BoE stance.
