Sber's GigaChat Lags ChatGPT, DeepSeek by 6-9 Months on Computing Power

Alexander Vedyakhin, first deputy chairman of Sberbank, said the bank's AI model GigaChat trails ChatGPT and DeepSeek by six to nine months, mainly due to insufficient computing capacity.

Sberbank's first deputy chairman Alexander Vedyakhin stated that the bank's GigaChat AI model lags behind OpenAI's ChatGPT and DeepSeek by six to nine months, according to a report by RBK at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (PMEF).

The primary reason cited is a shortage of computing power rather than algorithmic shortcomings. The admission highlights the challenges Russian tech firms face in accessing high-performance hardware amid sanctions and export controls.

No specific timeline for catching up was provided. Sberbank continues to develop GigaChat for enterprise and consumer use in Russia.
