Pound Climbs as Soft US Sales Deepen Dollar Weakness

Sterling gained about 0.40% on Friday after US data supported a dovish Federal Reserve stance, pushing GBP/USD to 1.3545.

The British pound advanced roughly 0.40% on Friday, with GBP/USD trading near 1.3545 after rebounding from its daily lows.

A batch of US data reinforced the case for Fed easing: consumer sentiment deteriorated while the disinflation trend improved. Weak US sales figures deepened the dollar's slide.

The combination of softer US data and a dovish Fed outlook lifted the pound against the greenback.
