“Multiple Features” Down: Revolut’s App and Cards Stall on a Tuesday Morning

Revolut confirmed a Tuesday morning service disruption that blocked app access and card payments in several European markets, saying customer money and data are safe. No cause has been identified.

Revolut confirmed a service disruption on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, after customers across several European markets found themselves unable to open the app or complete card payments. The fintech's support team said on X that multiple features were affected and that engineers had been working on a fix since the problem was identified that morning, adding that customer money and data remain safe.

Reports spike in early trading hours

Outage tracker Downdetector logged more than 1,500 reports around 8 am, according to City AM. Users in the UK, France and Spain flagged problems, with customers in Romania and Ireland also reporting issues. Some said login attempts returned a generic "something went wrong" message, while Yahoo Finance UK reported that users found their physical cards declined in stores. Revolut's own service status page showed disruption spanning sign-ins, card payments, transfers and a broader set of features.

Separately, Google Cloud's status page reported elevated error rates and intermittent network failures across multiple services, including Google Kubernetes Engine and Cloud Filestore, in its London region, europe-west2. That incident began at 23:08 US Pacific time on 19 October, or 06:08 UTC on 20 October. Google said engineers were investigating and listed no workaround. Its notice does not reference Revolut, and Revolut has not named a cause, though the fintech is a Google Cloud partner.

At scale, Revolut reports more than 80 million personal customers and over 800,000 business clients, with roughly 13 million of those in the UK.

Technical failures of this kind are a recurring theme for trading and payments platforms. A June 2020 Revolut incident left users unable to register, verify accounts or top up balances; the company said at the time it was not a hack and later confirmed services had been restored, when it had just over eight million customers. An AWS disruption on 20 October 2025 hit Robinhood and Coinbase, while Binance and KuCoin paused withdrawals during an AWS incident in April 2025. In November, a three-hour Cloudflare fault took broker sites including Monaxa, Skilling, Xtrade and FXPro offline, with Finance Magnates estimating about $1.58 billion of trading volume may have been affected. Leverate CEO Ran Strauss described Cloudflare at the time as a critical component of FX and CFD brokers' security infrastructure.
