Mexican peso softens as Middle East risks lift dollar, USD/MXN back above 17.00

The Mexican peso weakened against the U.S. dollar on Monday, with USD/MXN reclaiming the 17.00 level as Middle East tensions boosted safe-haven demand for the greenback.

The Mexican peso lost ground against the U.S. dollar on Monday, with USD/MXN trading near 17.03 after reclaiming the 17.00 handle. The pair had touched a weekly low earlier in the session.

Safe-haven demand tied to Middle East risks supported the dollar, even as the latest U.S. inflation and retail sales data disappointed investors. That mix kept pressure on the peso and pushed USD/MXN back above 17.
