Maya Protocol paused its network after an attacker exploited a transaction-processing bug to mint nearly 49 million unbacked CACAO and drain protocol reserves. Most of the stolen funds were converted into 20 BTC.

Maya Protocol has taken its network offline following a $1.7 million exploit. The attacker abused a transaction-processing flaw to create almost 49 million unbacked CACAO and remove assets from the protocol's reserves.
The bulk of the ill-gotten funds was swapped into 20 BTC. During the attack, CACAO temporarily fell nearly 89%.
The vulnerability had gone unnoticed for several years by auditors, AI-assisted checks, and the community.
