Lawsuit Alleges Anthropic Misled Consumers on Claude AI Subscription Limits

A federal lawsuit filed Monday claims the maker of Claude AI misled consumers about usage limits of its premium subscription plans. The suit seeks class-action status on behalf of purchasers since April last year.

A federal lawsuit filed Monday in Washington, D.C., on behalf of customer Karl Kahn alleges that the company behind Claude AI misled consumers regarding the usage limits of its premium subscription tiers, named "Max 5x" and "Max 20x." The suit, which seeks class-action status, claims that the advertised limits were not accurately disclosed.

The plaintiff, a Washington, D.C.-based customer, argues that the company failed to clearly communicate the actual usage constraints, potentially affecting a large number of subscribers who have purchased these plans since April of last year. The case was reported by the Wall Street Journal.

The outcome of this lawsuit could have implications for the AI industry's subscription practices, though no immediate financial impact is expected on the private company.
