Interactive Brokers (IBKR) Goes Dark During US Trading Hours

Interactive Brokers suffered a temporary login issue on Aug 5 that stopped a fraction of a percent of clients from accessing accounts hosted in certain APAC data centers. Access was restored within an hour.

On Wednesday, August 5, 2026, clients of Interactive Brokers (NASDAQ: IBKR) reported login and connectivity problems during US trading hours. Social media posts showed users complaining that they were unable to sign in or reach the trading platform. Finance Magnates independently verified the issue after failing to access an Interactive Brokers account during checks following the reports.

The broker's official system status page initially listed all systems as operational, and no public statement acknowledging an outage was available at first. The discrepancy left the scale of the incident unclear, with no immediate confirmation of whether the problems were limited to a specific region, internet service provider, or platform.

After the initial reports, an Interactive Brokers spokesperson said a technical issue temporarily prevented "a fraction of a percent" of clients from logging in. The affected accounts were hosted in certain APAC data centers, according to the company. The spokesperson added that a notice was posted on the login screen within minutes and that access was restored within an hour.

Separately, reports emerged the same day about a wave of attempted AI-powered voice phishing attacks targeting major hedge funds, including Citadel, Point72 and Two Sigma. There is no indication those reported cyberattacks were connected to the Interactive Brokers login issue.

Interactive Brokers experienced a similar incident in March 2020, when a server problem briefly affected login for some clients in the UK and Europe. That time, Trader Workstation and the mobile platform were impacted, while Client Portal and WebTrader remained available.

Trading platform outages have hit other brokers in recent years. In November 2025, XTB had a platform failure that prevented clients from closing positions for several hours. Robinhood also faced multiple service disruptions that left some users unable to log in or trade during periods of elevated market activity. In each case, the brokers eventually restored services and issued updates.
