Canada tariff delay gives only muted CAD relief, Commerzbank says

Commerzbank's Michael Pfister notes the three-day delay in new 50% US tariffs on selected Canadian goods has triggered only a modest Canadian dollar rebound, with uncertainty over a possible deal still weighing.

USDCAD

Michael Pfister at Commerzbank says the planned 50% US tariffs on selected Canadian goods have been postponed by three days, with reports suggesting an agreement is close.

The reprieve has provided only a limited lift for the Canadian dollar, as traders remain uncertain whether a deal will be finalized. The CAD rebound has therefore been modest rather than a sharp repricing.

The note highlights that tariff relief alone has not been enough to drive sustained CAD strength.
