US Offers Partial Tariff Relief on Canadian Autos

US officials have proposed deducting only US-specific value content from the 15% vehicle tariffs on Canada, while Canadian officials are pushing for all North American content to be excluded, sources say.

US and Canadian officials remain split over how to treat vehicle content under the 15% tariff applied to Canadian autos, according to sources familiar with the discussions.

The US side has offered to deduct only the value of US-specific content from the tariff. Canadian officials are seeking a broader exemption that would deduct all North American content.

The gap leaves the two sides still negotiating the scope of tariff relief for Canadian-made vehicles.
