Ranked pre-trade checklist for pairs and moving averages
The historical workflow ranks independent research, price-to-book screening, same-sector pairs, moving-average timing, and conflicting analyst notes as one pre-trade checklist. Entry, exit, and abstention follow that single path.
- Independent research is treated as nearly mandatory for traders with fewer than five years of solid experience.
- Longer-horizon work starts with fundamentals. A price-to-book of 1 is the parity case, but that ratio is not used in isolation because growth names can show a high reading when future earnings are capitalized.
- After fundamentals identify a candidate, short- and long-term charts plus moving averages set when to enter or exit, and same-sector pairs buy the stronger name and short the weaker name.
- Same-day upgrade and downgrade conflicts rank analyst reports at about 4 on a 1-to-10 scale. Editorial reading: those notes stay a short-horizon overlay and cannot replace the rule set.
A single ranked path
The archive describes a pre-trade checklist: one procedure that ranks research inputs and makes entry, exit, and abstention testable as one decision path. Independent research is treated as nearly mandatory for traders with fewer than five years of solid experience. Later steps order that work. They do not replace it.
Fundamentals set the candidate
Longer-horizon work starts with fundamentals. Price-to-book is market price divided by book value, and book value is assets minus liabilities. A reading of 1 is treated as parity between price and residual asset value per share.
Growth names can show a high price-to-book because future earnings are being capitalized, so that single ratio is not used in isolation.
Timing with averages and range extremes
After fundamentals identify a candidate, short- and long-term charts plus moving averages are used to decide when to enter or exit. That moving-average context is a timing overlay on a name the fundamental screen has already chosen.
Support and resistance are marked as horizontal extremes on one-year and five-year charts rather than as elaborate constructions.
Same-sector pairs across holding periods
Same-sector names are compared as pairs. The stronger stock is bought and the weaker stock is shorted, from day trades through longer holdings. The pairs comparison is a relative-strength step, not a separate research track.
Analyst conflicts stay low ranked
Same-day upgrade and downgrade conflicts lead to ranking analyst reports at about 4 on a 1-to-10 scale. That analyst-note conflict keeps third-party notes as a low-ranked short-term input.
One testable decision path
TradersWeek editorial view: the rank order keeps timing tools and analyst notes from standing in for the candidate screen. The checklist is the place where entry, exit, and abstention are decided together.
