US Consumer Confidence Sinks Across Generations to Multi-Year Lows
US consumer confidence has fallen across age groups, with Generation X, Baby Boomers, and the Silent Generation hitting the weakest readings in at least five years.
US consumer sentiment is deteriorating across age cohorts, according to the latest confidence index data. The six-month average for Generation X has fallen to about 78 points, the lowest in at least five years, while Baby Boomers have dropped to roughly 80 points, the weakest since at least September 2021.
Both groups were near 110 points in October 2021, implying a decline of about 40%. The Silent Generation's reading has also slipped to around 81 points after declining during five months of 2026, marking the lowest level in at least five years.
Only Generation Z and Millennials remain above 100 points, but their gauges are still below 2021-2023 levels. Overall, consumer confidence remains well below post-pandemic highs across every generation.
