Musk Plans 9.3M sq ft Texas Chip Plant with $16.8B First Phase
SpaceX and Tesla will invest $16.8 billion in the first phase of the Terafab chip plant near Austin, aiming to produce semiconductors for Optimus robots, Cybercab robotaxis, and orbital data centers. Musk calls it the largest and most valuable building on Earth.
Elon Musk is planning a massive chip manufacturing facility in Texas covering 9.3 million square meters. The first phase, called Terafab, will be funded by SpaceX and Tesla with an initial $16.8 billion investment.
The plant is set to produce chips for Tesla’s Optimus humanoid robot, the Cybercab robotaxi, and SpaceX’s orbital data centers. Musk described the future complex as “the largest and most valuable building on Earth.”
Total project spending could eventually reach $119 billion, according to the report. No completion timeline was provided.
