Vanguard Announces Share Splits for Five Equity Index ETFs

Vanguard announced forward share splits for VUG, MGK, VOOG, VO, and VGT, effective April 21, 2026, to keep share prices accessible.
Vanguard announced today plans to execute forward share splits for five equity index exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The splits are designed to keep share prices in more accessible trading ranges and will take effect on April 21, 2026.
The asset manager evaluates its ETF lineup periodically to determine when splits can improve investor outcomes. Factors considered include market price, bid-ask spreads, and trading volume. The following five funds meet Vanguard's current standards for a split:
- Vanguard Growth ETF (VUG) – 6:1 split
- Vanguard Mega Cap Growth ETF (MGK) – 5:1 split
- Vanguard S&P 500 Growth ETF (VOOG) – 6:1 split
- Vanguard Mid-Cap ETF (VO) – 4:1 split
- Vanguard Information Technology ETF (VGT) – 8:1 split
The record date for the splits is April 17, 2026, and the payable date is April 20, 2026, after market close. Investors holding shares as of the close of trading on April 20 will have their positions adjusted. Split-adjusted shares are expected to begin trading on April 21.
Importantly, investors will not be able to convert mutual fund shares to ETF shares on April 20 and 21. Vanguard emphasized that forward share splits do not affect the total market value of an investor's holdings and do not create taxable events.
