US Treasury Secretary Urges Senate Vote on CLARITY Act, Cites Satoshi

Scott Bessent pushed the Senate to immediately vote on the CLARITY Act, accusing Democrats of political delay. He invoked Satoshi Nakamoto, while conflict-of-interest rules tied to Trump remain a sticking point.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent publicly called on the Senate to bring the CLARITY Act to a vote without further delay, accusing Democrats of stalling the legislation for political reasons. He noted that the House of Representatives had already approved the bill over a year ago.

Since then, staff from the Senate banking and agriculture committees have dedicated thousands of hours to negotiating bipartisan amendments, Bessent stressed. He framed the moment as a test of American leadership: “America will either lead or it won’t. It’s as simple as that.”

To underscore his point, the Secretary quoted Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto: “If you don’t believe me or don’t understand, I don’t have time to convince you, sorry.”

The remaining obstacle is the bill’s ethics section. Democrats currently oppose the latest version due to conflict-of-interest provisions concerning President Donald Trump.
