US Senate Hits Impasse on CLARITY Act as August Recess Looms

Republican Senate Majority Leader John Thune has not yet initiated a vote to end debate on the CLARITY Act, a crypto-related bill. The delay puts the legislation at risk of being sidelined during the upcoming August recess.
On August 7, the House of Representatives begins a month-long break, after which lawmakers are expected to pivot to preparations for the November elections. With the legislative calendar tightening, the window for advancing the act is narrowing.
Despite the stall, Punchbowl News reporter Laura Weiss noted that Thune still intends to hold a procedural vote on the bill. Meanwhile, a Senate Democratic aide highlighted three unresolved concerns: ethics, illicit financing, and the text drafted by the Senate Agriculture Committee.
