US Job Openings Fall to 7.36 Million in June, Lowest Since March

US job openings dropped by 178,000 in June to 7.36 million, the lowest level since March, marking the second straight monthly decline.

The decline was broad-based, with private education and health services shedding 133,000 vacancies and leisure and hospitality down 86,000. Wholesale trade lost 74,000 openings, while professional and business services fell by 71,000.

Despite the pullback, the number of available positions still exceeds the count of unemployed workers by 265,000 — the second-largest surplus since January 2025. The ratio of openings per unemployed person held at 1.0, also the highest since that month.

Analysts note growing instability in the labor market as the two-month cumulative drop reaches 226,000.
