US Firms Waste About a Third of Software Spend, Cuts Seen Ahead

US companies spend nearly $10,000 per employee annually on software, yet roughly 33% is never used, leaving a 1,000-employee firm with more than $3 million in annual waste.

US corporate software spending has reached close to $10,000 per employee per year, but a large share of that outlay is wasted, according to The Kobeissi Letter.

Roughly 33% of software purchases are never used. At a company with 1,000 employees, unused software alone can represent more than $3 million in annual waste.

As software becomes a larger portion of corporate spending, managing these costs is turning into a key source of margin improvement. The letter expects software spending cuts to arrive soon.
